Over The Hill Farm Scores Two Best Rider Wins At HITS II Ocala Winter Festival
Ocala, FL- February 22, 2006- Week two of the HITS Ocala series proved to be a real winner for Over the Hill Farm, as the judges rated two OTH riders as “Best of Show”. Ashley Kennedy was given the Best Amateur Rider award. She showed her three horses, Gold Edition, Mosaik, and Larkspur in the Amateur Owner division. In the Children’s division, Cortney Rodrigue went home with the Best Child Rider award for the second week in a row as she piloted her horse, Role Model, in the Children’s Hunters.
Monaco, owned by Sophie Read and ridden by Hunt Tosh, showed in both the Low Hunter division and the Pre-Green Hunter division. In the Low division, Monaco scored three blues and took home the championship in the A section. Monaco also captured the championship tricolor ribbon in the Pre-Green Hunters with two first place ribbons in the A section.
Cachet continued her amazing run as she picked up another championship in the Green Conformation Hunter division. The mare, owned by Lee Cesery of Jacksonville, Florida, and ridden by Hunt Tosh, has won the championship the last four times she has been entered in the division - a count of four tricolor ribbons in a row. This week, in taking the championship with forty-seven points, she stood for first in the model and took two firsts and two seconds over fences and first in the under saddle.
This week in the Second Year Green Hunter division, Reveille, owned by Roberta Previ, of Orlando, Florida, brought home the reserve championship. Hunt Tosh guided the dark bay to a second and two thirds over fences to capture the tricolor.
In the Amateur Owner Hunter 18-35 division, Ashley Kennedy of Marshall, Virginia, rode her three horses, Gold Edition, Mosaik and Larkspur to a total of eight ribbons over fences. She and Mosaik also placed third in the Adequan Open Hunter Classic with scores of 83 and 80.5. Her riding impressed the judges and she was chosen as the Best Amateur Rider for the week.
Kennedy said smiling broadly, “What a surprise! Everybody was really good this week! Monkey (Gold Edition) went well today; he had a first yesterday. The competition is really tough this week. Larkspur was good; I made a mistake and he took care of me. Mosaik went well in the Classic rounds.” Although her horses had taken a break and not done the professional divisions this week, they will return to that schedule with Hunt Tosh riding next week. When asked how she manages three horses in one division, Kennedy commented, “Bill Schaub makes sure the horses get taken care of. But Jenny is our special person getting the horses ready in the barn and here ringside. I couldn’t do it without her.”
Showing for the first time in the Adult Hunter 46 and Over division, Cachet and owner/rider Lee Cesery picked up two firsts and a second over fences and a first under saddle to carry home the championship. Delightedly, Cesery said, “Hunt (Tosh) did a great job preparing her and keeping her relaxed. She’s really gotten in the swing of things.”
Cesery also showed her horse What D’Ya Know in the Amateur Owner Hunter 36 and Over division and received a first over fences and a third under saddle. The pair was reserve champions in the Adequan Open Hunter Classic with a blue ribbon. Cesery also finished fourth in the USEF Adult Medal.
Role Model and owner/rider Courtney Rodrigue had two blue ribbons over fences and took home the championship in the Children’s Hunter Horse 15-17 division. They also finished second in the Marshall & Sterling Children’s Hunter Classic. Rodrigue impressed the judges with the quality and style of her riding and, for the second week in a row, was named Best Child Rider for the show.
Young Parker Wright of Lakeland, Florida rode Fancy Feet for owner Bill Schaub to the championship in Section A of the Short Stirrup Hunter division. Fancy Feet and Wright had two firsts in capturing the championship. Asked to talk about his riding, Wright said, “I like Fancy Feet; he’s fun to ride. I just started to ride him, I think, last week. He’s not fast. I like to show him and jump him.” When asked if he does other sports at school, he responded, “No, I go to a Montessori school that’s very little. So sometimes I get picked up early, and I get to go to Mr. Bill’s and ride ponies.” He added, “I like it here at Ocala because I can gallop around the track. I like to gallop!”
Showboat, owned by Ann Gardner, was ridden by Samantha Schaefer in the Large Green Pony Hunter division. Showboat took a first and a second over fences for the reserve championship.
In the Pony Equitation division, Lauren Muller received a blue ribbon while riding Strike It Blue. Strike It Blue is owned by Bill Schaub.
Monaco was shown in the Children’s Hunter Horse 14 and Under division by owner/rider Sophie Read. They received a second over fences and two other ribbons in a hotly contested division.
Over the Hill Farm riders will compete next at the HITS III - Ocala Masters in Ocala, Florida.
