Traverse City, MI - July 26, 2007 - Overcast skies gave way to sunshine as the second day of Horse Shows by the Bay II got underway. This second week of competition has been awarded the prestigious World Champion Hunter Rider sanctioning by the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation. Some of the country's best professionals, amateurs and juniors will compete at Flintfields this week for coveted WCHR points.

Two-time WCHR winner Peter Pletcher rode Cape Town, owned by Becky Gochman, to the Second Year Green Working Hunter championship and Grand Working Hunter tricolor. According to the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation website, as of July 23, Pletcher was third in the WCHR rider award standings. "This is the kind of horse show you want for the WCHR, where [the management] really tries to make it the best they can for the rated hunters," explained Pletcher. Ashland Farm's Ken Smith rode Premier, owned by Amie Rosenthal, to the Second Year Green Working Hunter reserve championship.

The Green and Regular Conformation Hunter divisions were combined today. Tim Goguen guided Boulevard Deir, owned by Janet Read, to the championship while Pletcher and MacArthur Park received the reserve. Goguen and Boulevard Deir also received the Grand Conformation Hunter Championship.

Pletcher earned another tricolor with Leonardo, owned by Priscilla Flawn-Chopp, in the Regular Working Hunter division. Louise Serio, also a two-time WCHR winner, earned reserve champion on Reese, owned by Shaw Johnson Price. "They've tried to do everything right out here, and they're doing a great job. I think this week is special because of the WCHR scores and they also have a big hunter classic [on Saturday]," said Serio.

Earlier in the day, Goguen guided Allejandro, owned by Katie Dinan, to the First Year Green Working Hunter championship. Pletcher rode Mary Jane Stone's Surella to the reserve championship.

All of today's champions from the Polk Family Main Hunter Ring received a beautifully embroidered wool cooler courtesy of Ann K. Hubbard's Tack Shop.
