Hagyard Equine Medical Institute Invites All Horse Owners to Free Gastric Ulcer Scope Clinic

Written by: Lindsay McCall
Client: Hagyard Equine Medical Institute
Release Date: 2010-07-27

Lexington, KY-July 27, 2010- Hagyard Equine Medical Institute would like to invite all horse owners to a special gastric ulcer scoping event. This educational seminar takes place on August 3, 2010 at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute’s Sport Horse Facility in Lexington, KY. The clinic will begin at 8:00a.m., and it will serve to educate and enlighten horse owners about Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS).

Horses that travel regularly, compete, train, are confined at times, or have experienced other stressful situations may have developed stomach ulcers. Scoping the horse’s stomach is the only definite way to determine if a horse has stomach ulcers. Many horses develop stomach ulcers without the rider, trainer, or owner knowing that is what causing the horse’s discomfort. The scoping clinic will take about 30 minutes and one of Hagyard’s experienced veterinarians will evaluate the lining of the horse’s stomach for signs of EGUS. Hagyard will provide the customer with feedback for treatment and prevention and will answer any questions that the customer may be concerned about.

In addition to the free scope examination, any owners with horse’s that may have ulcers will receive a coupon for $5.00 off each tube of Gastrogard or Ulcergard. This discount is available for up to 28 tubes purchased at Hagyard Pharmacy.
Dr. Nathan M. Slovis, DVM, DACVIM, CHT with McGee Medical and Critical Care Center at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, noted, “ There are a lot of show horses that may have gastric ulcers but the owners do not realize it because the horse is not showing the usual clinical signs or the horse has a high tolerance of pain. This gastrointestinal disorder not only causes the horse discomfort but may decrease the stamina of the horse or affect the horse’s performance. We are holding this free clinic so owners can rule out ulcers and can understand how ulcers affect the horse’s performance. Not only is this the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the clinic but anyone can come and visit the world-renowned sport horse facility, view the equipment we use and become educated on gastric ulcers.”

If you would like to sign-up for the event you can contact Sara Collins at (859) 685-3726 or Nicole Tomlinson at (859) 685-3726 to reserve your space.
