Lexington, KY – Nov. 2, 2022 – The 139th National Horse Show resumed Wednesday, November 2nd with the top hunter riders in the country returning to the Alltech to vie for championship honors in their respective divisions. At the conclusion of the Goshen Hill Green Hunter 3’6”, the Green Hunter 3’9”, the Selma Garber Green Confirmation Hunter, the Wrenwood Farms High Performance Conformation Hunter, and the Corrigan Family High Performance Hunter divisions, Cannon Creek and Hunt Tosh were named Grand Hunter Champions.
Bobby Murphy (USA) set another solid, impressive hunter track. Murphy asked the top-tier hunter athletes to showcase their scope and athleticism while maintaining their form on day two of competition. The open strided lines and wide oxers challenged riders to execute their brilliance by finding a balanced gallop to the base.
With a clean sweep in the Corrigan Family High Performance Hunter division, Tosh and Cannon Creek added yet another tri-color to their remarkable record. Cannon Creek, the 11-year-old Holsteiner gelding owned by the Wheeler Family, has displayed nothing short of perfection through his past two seasons with Tosh. Tosh and Cannon Creek did not score lower than 90 points over the course of two days to secure their leading position amongst the rest of the elite hunter competitors.
“He [Cannon Creek] deserves this. He tries so hard and I give him all the credit,” comments Tosh. “He went home from Harrisburg and he hacked all week, so this is first show back. Basically, I just try to stay out of his way. He will always do his part.”
The duo has had an incredibly successful year in the spotlight, winning classes in the best of the best company, including the USHJA/Platinum Performance International Hunter Derby Championship. Most recently coming off of a championship in the High Performance Hunter division at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show [Harrisburg, PA], the pair traveled to the 2022 National Horse Show for the first time during their partnership to conclude the fall season.
“We didn’t come to the National [National Horse Show] last year so this was the first year showing him here. So to come here and be champion this year is obviously great,” said Tosh. “It is such a fabulous horse show and the trophies and awards are all wonderful. It is so special to hear past horses’ names and to win awards like those.”
The final award of the professional hunter divisions was awarded to Scott Stewart. For the 15th time in his career, Stewart was named Leading Hunter Rider at the 2022 National Horse Show. Stewart rode multiple horses to the winner’s circle over the course of the two days of hunter competition.
Competition will resume Thursday, November 2nd with the Goshen Hill Green Hunter 3’6” Under Saddle at 7 a.m. EST.
