Colin Syquia Tops $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby with Sulzberger's Front Page at Devon

May 29, 2025 – Devon, PA – Colin Syquia piloted Cynthia Sulzberger’s Front Page to victory in the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, sponsored by The Wheeler Family, at the 2025 Devon Horse Show and Country Fair. Syquia and the 2014 Belgian Warmblood gelding (Vigo D’Arsouilles x Cartagena Indias Ecaussinnes) earned a score of 180 in the first round, placing them in a tie for seventh heading into the handy. In the second round, the pair delivered a standout performance, earning a handy score of 201 and propelling them to the top. With a combined total of 381 over two rounds, Syquia and Front Page secured the win.

“I’ve been with him since he was three and a half years old,” stated Syquia. “My owner bought him out of Europe, and so we started baby greens all the way to now, to this level. So it’s been a great journey.”

Though it was one of Syquia and Front Page’s biggest wins to date, the longtime duo are not strangers of The Devon Horse Show.

“He was champion here two years ago in the second years, and he loves this venue like I do,” said Syquia. “It’s iconic. You feel the energy, you feel the history, that it makes you want to perform better.”

“I think one of my first times really as a rider doing the professional hunter divisions was actually riding him [Front Page] here,” he continued. “He was a first-year horse, and he got a nice ribbon. I’m a student of the sport, so I read a lot about it, watch a lot of videos, and look at pictures, and you see all the names—it’s all happened here. The best have been here. They’re on the walls and the trophies. If you’re lucky enough to have your name and your horse’s name engraved on that trophy, it’s immortalized, and it’s just, it’s epic.”
