Melissa Strawser and Darwin De Mars Ride to Victory in $1,000 Junior/Amateur 1.30m Jumper at Devon Fall Classic

Devon, Pennsylvania – September 10, 2026 – The 2026 Devon Fall Classic officially got underway Thursday, September 10, welcoming competitors back to the iconic Devon Show Grounds for four days of premier show jumping, family entertainment, shopping, and fall traditions.

Opening-day competition featured the $1,000 Junior/Amateur 1.30m Jumper class, sponsored by Breakaway Farms, where riders took to the Dixon Oval in pursuit of one of the first victories of the weekend.

Rising to the top of the field was Melissa Strawser aboard her bay gelding Darwin De Mars (Jarnac x Australia), who delivered the winning performance to claim the blue ribbon.

“I was using today as a warm-up,” shared Strawser, who is recovering from a recent injury and competed Thursday in a borrowed helmet after forgetting her own. Despite the circumstances, Strawser and Darwin De Mars quickly found their stride in the historic Dixon Oval.

“Darwin felt great,” she said. “He felt energetic, and he loves the Dixon Oval. He was on his game today.”

“It’s always nice to start with a win. It just sets the tone for the weekend, and I’m really excited to continue on Friday and Saturday under the lights at Devon.”

Grace Haley and her own bay Oldenburg mare, Concentalla PS, claimed second place, while Niamh Campbell and Hannah Matts’ grey mare, Mystique, rounded out the top three.

Competition at the Devon Fall Classic continues Friday, September 11, with the highlight, $10,000 1.40m Speed Stake, sponsored by Land Rover Main Line.
