Santiago Lambre Takes Second Consecutive Win at GLEF in $35,000 Welcome Stake CSI2*

Traverse City, Mich. – July 28, 2017 – After clinching Sunday’s $50,000 Great Lakes Grand Prix CSI2*, presented by North Face Farm, during Week Three of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), Mexico’s Santiago Lambre returned to the Flintfields Horse Park to take his second consecutive FEI win in Friday’s $35,000 Welcome Stake CSI2*, this time with his own mount Doloris.

Lambre and the 9-year-old KWPN mare bested a total of 33 international horse-and-rider combinations and outpaced 16 in the jump-off in 37.47 seconds. The pair was one of six to jump double-clear around the Bernardo Cabral-designed course.

Abigail McArdle (USA) led the way as third to return in the jump-off aboard Chuck Berry 8, owned by Plain Bay Sales. They stopped the timers in 37.96 seconds and held on to their lead for 12 rounds until Lambre took over the top spot, garnering McArdle and Chuck Berry 8 second place honors.

Finishing in third place was Ireland’s Darragh Kerins and Remarkable Farms LP’s Silteplait De Circee in 39.17 seconds.

Lambre, who competed with three horses in FEI competitions during Week Three at GLEF, is debuting three new mounts during Week Four. In addition to his win on Friday, Lambre also claimed another top ten finish with Ibabco, who qualified for the jump-off and finished in ninth place with 4 faults in 39.65 seconds.

Saturday at GLEF will highlight the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby at 3 p.m. in the Grand Prix Ring. Watch all of the action live at www.greatlakesequestrianfestival.com!

On Doloris:
“Doloris is a very fast mare. She was winning in Tryon as well and I gave her a break last week. I’m very happy with her win today. I bought her when she was 6 and trained her up to grand prix level. I’m very happy with all of my horses.”

On his jump-off round:
“I tried to go fast to the last fence because I was thinking I was not fast enough and fortunately it was there. I have six horses competing in the FEI events here so I can give each of them a nice break every week. It’s a nice plan and I’ll be competing here for the next two weeks.”

Arly Golombek and Hillary Johnson Awarded Week Four Championships

The professional hunter divisions saw championships awarded on Thursday during Week Four of GLEF, but it was Michigan native Arly Golombek of A.G. Equestrian LLC who took home the top tricolor in the Performance 3’6″ Hunter division.

Golombek, who represents the country of Israel in international competition, piloted Maverick Z, a 9-year-old Zangersheide gelding owned by Carriage Hill Farm, to a first place finish in the first over fences round and a second place in the handy on Wednesday. On Thursday, the pair received another first and second place in the final two over fences rounds to win the championship.

Reserve champion in the Performance 3’6″ Hunter division was Hillary Johnson and Copper Fox LLC’s Moonwalk. Later on in the afternoon, Johnson of Meadowview Farm based in Lowell, Michigan, also rode Swingset to championship honors in the Quasar Industries Baby Green 2’6″ Hunter division.

After a strong start on Wednesday, Johnson and the 5-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding returned to the ring on Thursday to win the second over fences class as well as the undersaddle to edge out Melissa Donnelly and Stepaside, who took home the reserve championship, by one point.

Arly Golombek – Performance 3’6″ Hunter division champion

On Maverick Z:
“Maverick Z is a new ride for me. I rode him a little bit this winter and did some jumper classes. He just has such a good style we thought we’d try some hunters and he absolutely loves it. It’s kind of his natural forte. He’s quiet and simple everyday so it’s just a very easy thing to do with him. He’s very good in the handys, maybe from his jumper experience. He’s got a lot of scope on his own and doesn’t worry if you’re a little long or deep, he’s very comfortable with all of that. He’s naturally easy to handy around.”

On her partnership with Carriage Hill Farm:
“I started to ride for Jane [Fennessy] a bit this winter. She has some other very nice riders and certainly a nice group of horses so between her show schedule and my show schedule we do a bit of back and forth so we cover a little of everywhere. We have some people at home in Florida, myself overseas and the team that’s on the road and we swap around a little bit. I’m here for three weeks in Traverse City. I love the weather and I love the venue.”

On GLEF:
“I’m from Michigan so, for me, it’s easy to support a Michigan show and up here you can’t beat the weather. It’s so comfortable and I think you can’t beat the culture of the town and the National Cherry Festival or the film festival that’s happening this week. It’s very exciting and there is certainly some amazing food here and some amazing days on the lake. It’s fantastic!”

Hillary Johnson – Quasar Industries Baby Green 2’6″ Hunter division champion

On Swingset:
“Swingset, also known as Willis in the barn, has the most floaty, wonderful trot. It feels like you’re on a swingset! He just turned 5 and was imported from Belgium in December. He was actually a dressage horse over there so he’s still very new to jumping. He hadn’t jumped at all while in Europe but he’s coming along really nicely. I think he’s learning a lot. He was fairly consistent in his canter today and his pace stayed the same. He’s got such a good expression in his way of going and has such a nice presence in the ring.”

On GLEF:
“It’s been nice to be up here. We’ve been here for about a month. He hasn’t shown every single week but we’ve gotten to be in so many different rings and have so many different experiences for him. Last week we got to show in the [Polk Family] Main Hunter Ring, which was fun. I think it’s been good for him to get on a consistent program and start to learn his job.”
