Ashley Scofield Succeeds in First Equitation Tuesday of Great Lakes Equestrian Festival

Traverse City, Mich. – July 12, 2019 – The first of four Equitation Tuesdays during the 2019 Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), presented by CaptiveOne Advisors, LLC, took place during Week II, with junior athletes displaying their mastery of proper form over fences and on the flat in the hopes of claiming top placings and valuable qualifying points towards this year’s year-end finals. One of the first winners in the popular series, Ashley Scofield and Watermark claimed the win in the hotly-contested ASPCA/NHSAA Maclay Horsemanship class.

Up against a field of 13 other partnerships, Scofield piloted her own Watermark to the highest marks of the class, besting the pack to emerge victorious in the ASPCA/NHSAA Maclay Horsemanship class thanks to their exemplary performances. The duo added to their existing 2019 GLEF success after also earning the reserve championship in the Week I Albion College Equestrian 15–17 Equitation division.

Though Scofield only recently acquired the ride on Watermark in April, the pair have quickly found a rhythm, riding to consistent results at the competitive 3’6” level. In addition, this year marks Scofield’s first visit to GLEF, and the young rider has already kicked off her time in Traverse City on a high note with Tuesday’s victory.

Other Equitation Tuesday winners include Abigail Gordon, who rode MTM Farm’s MTM Chaperone to first place in the Hamel Foundation NHS 3’3” Medal, as well as Natalie Jayne and M.D.L. LLC’s Atlodetto FZ, who were the highest-scoring team in the Platinum Performance USEF Show Jumping Talent Search 2* class.

GLEF Weeks III, IV and V will also feature Equitation Tuesdays, which provide equitation exhibitors the opportunity to collect double the amount of valuable qualifying points per week in one location.

FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Ashley Scofield – ASPCA/NHSAA Maclay Horsemanship winner

On Watermark:
“He is an 11-year-old Oldenburg. I got him back in April so I haven’t had him for that long. We have done a lot together. We started out showing at local shows and then started doing bigger and bigger stuff. He has been stepping up really nicely to the 3’6” equitation.”

On the Williamsburg Ring:
“I thought the Williamsburg Ring was really nice. I haven’t had much of a chance to ride in that ring, so we did a warm-up class and the ring rode really nicely. I didn’t find any situations that I needed to overcome in that ring as it is really nice!”

On GLEF:
“It is so beautiful here! The horse show is gorgeous and everything is set up so nicely. The horse show has been running really smoothly, so that is also a plus. This is my first year here. I have been to a couple of other facilities like in Colorado and at [the Winter Equestrian Festival], and I really like this horse show so far. My favorite part is getting to go out on the lake. We went out on Torch Lake yesterday and the water was beautiful. It was a lot of fun to get to hang out with all of my barn friends.”
