Barcelona, Spain – Oct. 11, 2018 – Following a grueling weekend of competition, Team Belgium emerged victorious and was crowned the 2018 Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final champions at the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona, Spain, on Sunday, topping 15 other nations around the world to claim the prestigious title.

Along with the top eight nations from Friday’s first round of competition, the star-studded team of Niels Bruynseels, Pieter Devos, Jos Verlooy and Nicola Philippaerts, led by Chef d’Équipe Peter Weinberg, entered into Sunday’s final round on a clean slate.
As the pathfinder for Team Belgium, Bruynseels kicked things off with a superb clear round aboard Gancia de Muze.
Although Verlooy, Devos and their respective mounts, Caracas and Claire Z, each incurred 12 faults over course designer Santiago Varela’s challenging track, Philippaerts came through in the clutch to deliver a second clear effort with H&M Harley V. Bisschop to secure the gold medal for Belgium on a total of 12 faults.
With four teams finishing on a total of 16 faults, it all came down to time to determine who would join Belgium on the podium. In the end, it was France who had the quickest combined time to take home silver, while Ireland earned the bronze medal.
Sunday’s victory was Belgium’s second Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final win in Barcelona, after first earning the championship title in 2015.
