London, England – June 22, 2018 – The prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) officially hit the halfway mark of its 16-leg 2018 season in Cascais, Portugal, where the week’s top competition culminated with the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Cascais, Estoril CSI5* on Saturday, June 16.
Despite challenging weather conditions, Belgium’s Nicola Philippaerts flew to the top prize, besting a field of 32 of the world’s leading athletes, aboard H&M Harley VD Bisschop to move up to the fourth place position with 121 points in the overall rankings.

Philippaerts followed in his father, Ludo’s, footsteps, who won the first LGCT Cascais grand prix in 2006, with his blazing fast round on H&M Harley VD Bisschop to secure the win as well as his place in the Longines Global Champions Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague playoffs in December.
With the battle for the championship title gathering pace, the top three positions in the LGCT overall rankings are unchanged following the eighth leg of the tour in Cascais. Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander remains the current leader with 172 points, while Great Britain’s Ben Maher is 29 points behind her on 143 points and his compatriot Scott Brash is third on 131 points.
In addition, an exclusive hour-long highlights show from the Luhmühlen Horse Trials will be featured on the main channel on Sunday, June 24, at 9:30 p.m. EST. This program will also be available on demand online after it has aired.
