GPL Announces Players and Team Sponsors for 8th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament

Wellington, Fla. – March 16, 2017 – The Gay Polo League (GPL) is thrilled to announce the players and team sponsors, as well as reveal the La Martina-designed jerseys for the 8th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament, taking place at the iconic International Polo Club April 6-9.

“I am very proud and excited to be a supporter of the GPL,” said President of the Goshen Hill Foundation, Inc., Caroline Moran. “Not only is it the hottest event of the season, Chip McKenney and his team have done a masterful job in turning the game of polo into a platform for human rights. It is a feel good event in every way and one that is not to be missed!”

Goshen Hill, a returning sponsor, will be a team sponsor for the first time this year. The Goshen Hill team members include Alex Green, Kenny Mayer, Tony Natale and polo professional Joey Casey.

Cedar Crest Stables, owned by Catherine Malone, celebrates its seventh year as a team sponsor. Malone is an accomplished and well-known international dressage competitor. Outside the dressage arena, Malone is an advocate for equal rights for LGBTQ people.

“I am so pleased to return as a team sponsor for the GPL tournament,” said Malone. “I became involved with the GPL tournament because I enjoy supporting equal rights and the people involved in this event are a really great group. The GPL’s mission of inclusion is a principle that I truly connect with and that’s why I have stayed involved.”

The Cedar Crest team is comprised of Stacie Simpkins, Mark Bennett, Severance MacLaughlin and polo professional Andreas Laplacette. Laplacette, a 5-goal player from Argentina, makes his debut appearance in the International Gay Polo Tournament.

The Seminole Casino Coconut Creek team is comprised of Jed Persall, Ashley MacKenzie, Rafik Boughadoui and polo professional Tiffany Busch. Seminole Casino’s team consists of two international players. MacKenzie, also competing for the first time in a GPL event, hails from New Zealand and Boughadoui is originally from Algeria.

“We are happy to be part of the International Gay Polo Tournament for the second year in a row,” said Lindsey Schubert, Seminole Casino Advertising Manager. “The partnership between Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, NYY Steak and GPL has been a dynamic relationship that we hope to see grow. We are proud to be a sponsor as well as a beneficial partner to the organization.”

Rounding out the four team sponsors is the leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services RSM US LLP. Daniel Bain, Jean Marc Herrouin, Chip McKenney and polo professional Charlie Muldoon. Bain, a Canadian native, makes his first appearance at the GPL tournament.

“At RSM, we understand the importance of diversity and how diverse thinking leads to better outcomes and solutions for our clients through enhanced collaboration among our employees,” said Steve Kampa, senior manager and tax leader for RSM US LLP’s Alliance, and leader of the firm’s Pride employee network group. “With that as a backdrop, and with our firm’s strong history of stewardship, we are proud to support the Gay Polo League.”

GPL is grateful to the professional players Busch, Casey, Lalpacette and Muldoon, who donate their time to quarterback the teams in the 8th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament.
