Great Lakes Equestrian Festival Welcomes Impressive Field of International Athletes as FEI Competition Commences

Traverse City, Mich. – July 19, 2018 – Week III of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), now underway, kicks off international competition for the 2018 circuit with a FEI CSI2* rating.

FEI competition during Week III will feature a total of 33 athletes and 46 horses from 10 nations around the world, including the USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

This week, the U.S. is the most represented country followed by Mexico, Canada and Germany.

Top athletes to look out for include Germany’s Wilhelm Genn, who was Week I’s grand prix winner, Ireland’s Paul O’Shea and U.S. Olympic gold medalist Peter Wylde as well as a number of up-and-coming young professionals such as Tori Colvin and Kelli Cruciotti of the United States.

FEI competition in the Grand Prix Ring begins on Thursday at the Flintfields Horse Park with the Staller 1.40m Jumper CSI2* class. Friday will highlight the $35,000 NetJets Welcome Stake CSI2*, while Sunday will feature the week’s most coveted prize, the $50,000 North Face Farm Grand Prix CSI2*, at 2 p.m.

The 2018 GLEF will continue to host internationally ranked competition throughout the remainder of the circuit. Week IV holds another CSI2* rating, while Weeks V and VI boast a more prestigious CSI3* rating.
