FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Rebecca Hunt – Pennsylvania Hunter Pony Breeders’ Associate Perpetual Trophy recipient

On Loafers Lodge Andrew:
“I’ve had him for a little over a year, I bought him as a two-year-old. I showed him a lot in the Well shows last year and he did really well in-hand. We started under saddle in the fall and we just started him back up. We did two horse shows under saddle and came here. WE are so impressed with how well he’s done. He will just keep doing what he’s doing, and he is only 3 years old so he will get a little time off now. I was thrilled because I keep him at my house, I take care of him, I braided him today, I do everything and most people don’t do that. It’s always fun to turn him out. It’s really meaningful and I’m really proud.”

On the Devon Horse Show:
“It’s so amazing to be here. I’m local – I’m just in Coatesville. I’ve only shown one pony here before and I’ve shown a horse. I won Amateur Handler in 2015 with a horse and then started to develop my own young ponies and start showing them myself.”

Emily Anne Belin-McDonnell – Leading Pony Breeder Handler

On how her ponies performed:
“I was super happy. It is a thrill to be here. When you walk onto the show grounds you get excited butterflies because it’s Devon. Sometimes the horses feel it too but we strategized, I thought our animals showed and handled well. They love the atmosphere, they rose to the occasion, kept all four on the floor and it was a good day.”

On her future plans:
“I will be back here for the horses, we have 18 of then Sunday, June 5. That is our big day that we ease into with the ponies. Then we will regroup and plan for Upperville, another stop on the trail.”

On the future for her ponies:
“We want to select, raise and develop ponies that are going to be useful and come back and eventually do the under saddle classes and hopefully qualify to do the regular division. To us the main goal is to make sure they not only make it from this ring doing the breeding but through the performance and pony finals, all of the things they are supposed to do.”
