Katie Taylor and L’Con Reyes Rewarded for Brilliance in $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, sponsored by Desert International Horse Park, During Temecula Valley National Premier I
Temecula, Ca. – April 23, 2021 – After an exciting week of hunter competition at the Temecula Valley National Premier I, riders traded in their show coats for shadbellies and debuted their immaculately turned out mounts for Friday’s highlight class of the week, the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, sponsored by Desert International Horse Park. A total of 27 horse-and-rider combos took center stage in the Grand Prix Arena in hopes of earning the gold and glory. After two rounds of handy horsemanship, it was ultimately Katie Taylor and L’Con Reyes who topped the field of talented riders with their style and brilliance.
Lauren Kay and Lord Oliver SR Steal the Show in High 1.40m JR/AO/AM Jumpers
Amateur and Junior riders took their turn in the spotlight as they descended upon the Grand Prix Arena Friday afternoon for the Temecula Valley National Premier I High 1.40m JR/AO/AM Jumpers. Coming off of the first installment of the division on Thursday, riders were eager for another opportunity to compete at Galway Downs. Gerardo Pasquel Mendez dominated in the first class of the division held Thursday, stealing the blue ribbon and setting a ten-second gap between first and second place aboard El Conde. Though, he would not make it a two for two as Lauren Kay and Lord Oliver SR stole the show Friday afternoon with their fast and efficient performance.
