Wellington, Fla. – Jan. 5, 2017 – Following the tremendous success of last year’s inaugural Wellington Masters CSI3*-W, which featured exciting world-class show jumpers from around the world in one of the seven, coveted qualifying events of the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping North American League prior to the finals, Deeridge Farms and the organizers of the CP Palm Beach Masters, presented by SOVARO®, have created an entirely new event, this time bringing to center stage the outstanding group of hunters that at this time of the year also call Wellington home.
March 3–5 is the all new Deeridge Derby Weekend, presented by the USHJA Foundation, and the setting, of course, couldn’t be more beautiful.
“We are so happy to have the opportunity to host an international and national hunter derby as well as a pony derby this year at the inaugural Deeridge Derby Weekend,” said Katie Jacobs-Robinson. “We hope everyone enjoys the new event and has a great time competing.”
Deeridge Farms is considered one of Wellington’s most gorgeous estates and stables. Following last year’s World Cup qualifying event, Deeridge Farms proved itself to be a perfect setting to host one of the most prestigious and important show jumping series in the world.
Now, it’s time for the hunters to take over, although the weekend will feature some lower level jumper action as well.
Opening day, Friday, March 3, highlights the $5,000 International Hunter Derby Welcome Stake in the Grand Prix Ring at 10:30 a.m. After a lunch break, the $2,500 National Derby Welcome Stake takes place at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, action in the Grand Prix Ring heats up again at 10 a.m. with the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby. Then, look for a 2:30 p.m. start for the first round of the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, presented by the National Horse Show. Meanwhile, with starting time to be announced, 1.10m, 1.20m and 1.30m Jumpers will open their competition in the Deeridge Jumper Ring.
The grand finale on Sunday kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with the first and second round of the $2,500 Pony Derby (second round scheduled for approximately 11 a.m.). That sets the scene for the weekend’s feature class, the final round of the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby scheduled for 1 p.m. Awards and presentations will follow the main event.
Sunday also boasts a selection of jumper derbies in the Deeridge Jumper Ring including the $2,500 1.10m Derby, the $7,499 1.20m Derby and the main event, the $10,000 1.30m Derby — all starting times to be announced.
