The North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series Comes to Wellington

Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 5, 2019 – The Chesapeake International Draft Horse Show is set to take place on Feb. 8-10 at Crab Orchard Equestrian Estate, which was generously donated by Frank and Monica McCourt! The event will showcase the North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series (NASHHCS), the top American competition for the draft breeds Clydesdale, Percheron, and Belgian. Created and hosted by Victoria McCullough, the Chesapeake International Draft Horse Show will exhibit teams that are vying for a spot in the final, set to take place in the fall.

Over the course of 60 qualifying shows, teams compete for points that place them in the final. Along the way, there are numerous opportunities for grand prize money and competition. The Chesapeake International Draft Horse Show will be no exception, with total winnings being offered exceeding $50,000! The top five teams from each breed will be in attendance, competing against their own kind over the course of the three days of competition. Only the four top teams from each breed are invited to compete at the final, so each qualifier is as important as the last.

Started in 1987 as a way to bring awareness to the draft breeds, the NASHHCS is now a well-recognized event, with locals coming back each year to cheer on their favorite teams when they come to town. Although it had humble beginnings, the NASHHCS has now grown to be able to offer generous prize money and travel funds for those accepted to the final. Premiums at each qualifier must be a minimum of $2,500, which has set a new standard for draft competition. Now considered the “Triple-Crown” of draft horses, this sport is well followed within the equestrian community and is a welcomed addition to the town of Wellington which boasts the best in equestrian competition during the winter show season.
