Like father, like daughter. Leatherdale Farms owner, Louise Leatherdale’s Daniela 133 shows promise to follow in her sire’s footsteps.
Daniela 133, a Hanoverian mare by Louise Leatherdale and Susan Meyer’s champion Grand Prix stallion, Damsey FRH, has made her international debut and has since shown great promise to be a successful upper-level mount.
Trained and campaigned by German Olympic rider, Helen Langehanenberg, Daniela 133 began her training in 2021. The duo competed in the M** for Six to Eight-Year-Olds in the Klein Tour at the RV St. Georg Münster the same year. Langehanenberg, who also rode Damsey FRH, debuted “Danny” in international competition in 2023 where they scored a 72.892% to claim second place.
Daniela 133 showcases some of Damsey FRH’s notable characteristics including a powerful hind end. When asked if she thought that Daniela 133 would follow in her father’s footsteps, the Olympian noted:
“I am really curious about her,” stated Langehanenberg. “Of course, there is always the hope that she will follow in the footsteps of her sire Damsey. And yes, I also see a future Grand Prix horse in her. Let’s see if we succeed. But that’s just up in the air. What counts now is that her international debut was more than successful with 72.892 percent and second place.”
Most recently, Daniela 133 and Langehanenberg competed in the Short Grand Prix at Anakenenhof, where they placed second scoring a 72.636%.
Damsey FRH was part of the German Team at the 2008 World Breeding Dressage Championships, Verden. He and Langehanenberg earned top placings in CDI Grand Prixs across Europe, and in 2017, the duo secured a position on the prestigious German team for the European Championships. With scores in the 80s, they moved up to tie in the sixth position on the 2018 FEI World Individual Dressage Ranking list.
The iconic pair went on to have an illustrious career including being members of the German gold medal winning team at Aachen CDIO5* Nations Cup in both 2018 and 2019, as well as winning a bronze medal at the 2019 FEI Dressage World Cup Finals in Gothenburn, Sweden. In 2020, Damsey was the WBFSH #1 World Ranked Hanoverian (HANN), and #9 Dressage World Ranked for 2020.
Damsey FRH retired from competition in 2021 following a second-place finish in the Grand Prix at the CDI5* Al Shaqab in Doha, Qatar. He now resides at Hengststation Jens Meyer in Dorum, Germany where he stands for stud.
Damsey FRH was a also Premium stallion at the Hanoverian licensing in Verden, finishing his 30-day-test in Adelheidsdorf, Germany, with the top rideability score of 9.25. He was the Champion at the Danish stallion licensings in Herning in 2006 and 2009. After a successful career in the young horse dressage classes, Damsey FRH was a twice finalist of the Bundeschampionat obtaining full HV approval. He qualified for the 2006 YH World Dressage Championships, obtaining full HV approval. Damsey FRH ranked in the top 1% of all German dressage sires with 159 points according to the estimated breeding evaluation made by the FN. In 2013 he was awarded the suffix FRH, as a superior representative of Hanoverian breeding.
