Reserve Your Tailgates for the 8th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament Today

Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 10, 2017 – The countdown has begun! With less than nine weeks until the 8th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament, now is the time to reserve your field-side tailgates. Gay Polo League’s flagship charity event will take place April 6-9 at the most prestigious polo venue in North America, the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC).

Every season, the tailgate competition is fierce between contesting tailgates that are creatively decorated and we expect nothing less this year.

“The tailgate competition is an integral part of the International Gay Polo Tournament culture,” GPL Founder and President, Chip McKenney, explained. “Our friends and supporters put a great amount of effort into creating visually spectacular tailgates that add color and energy around the polo field! It is so much fun to walk around and see what people are capable of putting together! The tailgates are a very important piece of the GPL experience, and we always encourage our attendees to be as creative as possible when choosing their theme and decor.”

Although fun and whimsical, the annual tailgate is taken seriously and the competition is wonderfully spirited.

Participants typically spend months directing and integrating every aspect of the tailgate into a particular theme. Costumes, props and menus all work together to produce an exciting tailgate that all spectators have an opportunity to enjoy, as many participants open up their tents to passersby in the spirit of fun and friendly.

For the best chance to win, here are a few tips from last year’s tailgate judges: Michael Sahakian, Ron Neal, and Kaylin Payne:

Take advantage of a well-known theme and plan it down to the last detail (i.e. color, costume, menu, etc.). Prepare as much as possible in advance, this includes decorations and food. Preparation ensures more time enjoying the tailgate, guests and polo. Spread the joy by opening your tailgate, food and drinks with attendees to keep the spirit alive.

The GPL is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization that is focused on raising awareness and funds to help put an end to the homelessness crisis among the LGBTQ youth and to create scholarships for higher education.

Tailgates sell quickly, so be sure to book yours today and enjoy the high-spirited polo and the phenomenal tailgate displays at the premier polo event of the social season. To purchase tickets, click here.
