Samantha Schaefer and Dominic Gibbs Tie for Top Honors in 36,600 Staller Shows Welcome Stake CSI2*
Traverse City, Mich. – July 30, 2021 – Passing the halfway mark during the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, presented by CaptiveOne Advisors, Week IV saw an exciting field of show jumping competitors take to the Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel International Ring for the $36,600 Staller Shows Welcome Stake CSI2*. A competitive field of 84 horse-and-athlete pairs representing nine different nations put their best foot forward, each determined to nab a spot in Sunday’s $72,000 North Face Farm Grand Prix CSI2* for a chance to vie for week’s the top prize. After a valiant fight to the finish, it was an unprecedented tie for first place between Samantha Schaefer (USA) and Dominic Gibbs (USA).
Sterling Malnik and Rockette Crowned Hillside Farm Large Junior Hunter 15 & Under Champion
Hunter competition continued at the 2021 Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), presented by CaptiveOne Advisors, Friday, July 30, marking the fourth consecutive week of top hunter and jumper sport at the Flintfields Horse Park. Junior athletes and their top mounts were highlighted Friday afternoon in the Polk Family Hunter Ring for the competitive Hillside Farm Large Junior Hunter 15 & Under division. A strong field of horse-and-rider combinations made for stiff competition, but it was Sterling Malnik and Rockette who were crowned champion at the conclusion of the day, while Maya Rahaim and Tradewind rode away with the reserve champion title.
