Sorensen Stables’ THE HUNT is a Family Affair

Maastricht, NED – Oct. 25, 2017 – The team behind Europe’s first ever hunter auction, THE HUNT, consists of three Sorensens – Chris, Will and Whitney. A family affair from the beginning, brothers Will and Chris, along with his wife Whitney, conceptualized the idea of THE HUNT as a way to combine their great strengths, with Chris and Whitney operating as well-established horse brokers and dealers, and Will boasting a wealth of knowledge in promoting and producing international events. The end result, THE HUNT, is slated to be a world-class experience, the only one of its kind, with an elite collection of 15 curated horses to be auctioned off November 13, 2017 in Maastricht, Netherlands to the highest bidder.

“Between myself, Will and Whitney, I don’t think there could be a more perfect team to organize this event. With Whitney and I handling the equestrian side of everything, and Will managing all the event planning, our strengths complement each other amazingly well,” said Chris. “We have put in countless hours of work to make THE HUNT a success, and it is doubly special for me that this event is being set up alongside my family.”

Chris Sorensen, the face behind Sorensen Stables and the oldest of the Sorensen brothers, is a well-respected Canadian competitor and trainer, currently based out of the Netherlands. Outside of his multitude of international accomplishments for the Canadian team, Chris, combined with his American wife Whitney, is also well-known as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced hunter suppliers in Europe for the North American market. Chris and Whitney are THE HUNT’s horse experts and responsible for all things equestrian. Between acquiring the collection of horses, training, vetting and arranging horse trials, Chris and Whitney have productively orchestrated all the equestrian aspects of THE HUNT, all while balancing the daily operations of their European farm and a busy travel schedule.

The youngest Sorensen brother, Will, is not an equestrian, but has always supported brother Chris’s riding career and quest to ride for the Canadian Olympic team, and has watched him compete all over the world including at the 2013 Nations Cup in Brazil and the 2016 Morocco Royal Tour in Africa. A specialist in event operations, Will manages the promotion and production of THE HUNT, pulling from experience during his 6-year tenure as the Director of Operations for Canada, Australia and New Zealand for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. No stranger to event production, Will has served as the point person in organizing international events across five continents, and has put his expertise to use with THE HUNT, orchestrating the branding, website, marketing and communications, among a plethora of other responsibilities.

“First we came up with the concept, then I went home to organize my life and get ready to move to Netherlands for at least three months,” said Will. “We spoke to the big players in the dutch horse broker world to make sure we had support, and then after finding a perfect venue and organizing some of the logistics, we had to decide whether or not to move forward with the auction. Considering the large event costs on top of the upfront costs of purchasing all the horses, it was a big risk and leap of faith, but we took a deep breath and went for it with a focus on the long-term and building a bigger business. Since then we have been working day and night to try and find the horses and quickly build a brand and marketing strategy to create an event unlike any other.”

A testament to the Sorensens’ passion and efficiency, THE HUNT’s entire lifespan – from an idea all the way to fruition – will only be four months. During Will’s trip to visit Chris in the Netherlands this past August, the idea of the auction was formed by the two brothers. In only a few short months, the Sorensen team has accomplished everything from securing an extraordinary venue to taking videography of the horses, as well as coordinating hospitality logistics and widespread marketing efforts. THE HUNT has been craftily aligned with Jumping Indoors Maastricht, the prestigious Longines-sponsored showjumping weekend prior to THE HUNT, to minimize the transportation expenses to riders, trainers and owners already in the area.

The excitement leading up to THE HUNT is unparalleled, and auction is already nearly sold out due to its extensive popularity. Be sure to sign up on THE HUNT’s website as soon as possible to register for a ticket to this hotly-anticipated experience. For those unable to attend, the auction will be live-streamed with phone bidding options available, as well.
