Traverse City Horse Shows Announces Updated Dates for 2020 Show Schedule

Thorough COVID-19 Action Plan Will be Enacted to Protect Health of Participants

Traverse City, Mich. – May 22, 2020 – In order to keep the health and safety of its visitors a top priority as well as to remain in accordance with local regulations, the Traverse City Horse Shows (TCHS) team has elected to adjust the 2020 schedule, which will allow for the enactment of an enhanced COVID-19 Action Plan and the addition of another FEI-rated week. The new calendar of events will offer 11 weeks of riding, all of which will hold an FEI distinction, in addition to two World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) weeks during GLEF Weeks II and IV.

Following an initial schedule alteration, the Traverse City Spring Horse Show (TCS), presented by Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel, will have its first week moved to August, allowing more time for the organization to prepare at Flintfields Horse Park. At this time, it is planned that the two weeks of the spring series will be followed by six weeks of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF), presented by CaptiveOne Advisors, LLC, and then subsequently followed by a short break before the three weeks of fall dates, which will include the Traverse City Fall Horse Show, presented by Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel, the American Gold Cup, presented by CaptiveOne Advisors, LLC, and the Silver Oak Jumper Tournament. To ease the strain on exhibitors, a layover service will be available so that horses can stay on the grounds between GLEF and the new fall season dates.

Updated Schedule of Events
Traverse City Spring Horse Show: June 17 – 28
Great Lakes Equestrian Festival: July 1 – August 9
Traverse City Fall Horse Show: August 26 – 30
American Gold Cup: September 2 – 13
Silver Oak Jumper Tournament: September 2 – 6

With safety and health as the number one priority, the TCHS team intends to cooperate with all guidelines set by US Equestrian, the C.D.C and the W.H.O, as well as state and local governments, in order to ensure that the risk of virus transmission is as prevented as possible. To minimize risk and safely operate the horse shows during the summer and fall, TCHS has created a comprehensive COVID-19 Action Plan that will be overseen by Caitlin Lane, the newly-hired Safety and Compliance Manager. Lane has extensive experience in this area, having served as the Sport Operation Director for Equestrian at the 2019 PanAmerican Games in Lima and the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina. Additionally, she was the Chief Operation Officer for the Washington International Horse Show in Washington, D.C., lending her unique qualifications to lead the efforts in Traverse City. Though the entire team at TCHS is committed to the health and safety of the horse show’s participants and the community, the organization would also like to stress that it will depend on everyone in attendance to share in the responsibility. It will be crucial that everyone take the protocols seriously and does their part.
