Traverse City, Mich. – May 20, 2021 – The management team at Traverse City Horse Shows (TCHS) is thrilled to host the Markel/USHJA Zone 5 & 6 Team/Platinum Jumper Championship during Week V of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF). The highly anticipated event spotlights some of the brightest show jumping athletes, offering a fun and competitive experience with the opportunity to earn Zone Horse of the Year points in the Children’s and Adult Amateur Jumper (1.10/1.15m), 1.20/1.25m Junior and Amateur, and 1.30/1.35m Junior and Amateur sections.
“We are excited to add the Markel/USHJA Team/Platinum Jumper Championship for Zone 5 and 6 teams to our roster of events,” commented Matt Morrissey, Event Director of Traverse City Horse Shows. “This championship brings even more exciting competition to Flintfields Horse Park, and we look forward to hosting all of these talented horse and rider combinations.”
The Markel/USHJA Team/Platinum Jumper Championships is part of the USHJA Emerging Jumper Program and is open to professionals, juniors or amateurs. Offering both team and individual competition, the program provides an opportunity to qualify for continued education with top national and international industry experts. The program is designed for athletes competing successfully in the 1.40/1.45m jumper divisions. Horse-and-rider combinations can qualify for the championship by earning a minimum of $250 and completing an application at least 45 days before their zone’s Platinum Jumper Championships.
Individual medalists and select wildcards will be designated as USHJA Show Jumping Platinum Athletes and will be eligible for continued education working with top national and international clinicians and industry specialists. Riders and horses are restricted from competing in the championships if they have not competed in an Open High-Performance Standard Grand Prix during the 2021 competition year.
