What a blessing it has been to have you by our side during one of the most challenging years of our lifetimes. We made it! We could not have accomplished what we have without YOU! We wish to express our deepest gratitude to you for always encouraging us and supporting our rescue mission.
Last year felt like we were holding our breath, and the entire nation was on hold. Even though our rescue was not designated an essential business, we felt vital to the families with furry companions in our service area and beyond. As a rescue, we couldn’t just stay on hold. So, we got back to work, harder than ever. Dogs and their humans needed us.
Operating a rescue is challenging enough even in the best of times! Can you imagine what The Doghouse was like during a worldwide pandemic? With an average of 75 rescue dogs in the house at any one time, plus more needing our help every day, we couldn’t close our doors. Our staff quickly adapted to entirely new safety protocols, such as wearing masks and daily temperature scanning. Many of you were still willing to adopt but couldn’t come into The Doghouse, so we held our “meet & greets” outside. Supplies were at an all-time low. Like you, we were running around trying to find toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning supplies but on a grand scale for our rescue needs. Our doors had to remain open for the houseful of amazing dogs that without us would have no hope of a future life of happiness. With that said, we realized that a multitude of owners, because of financial hardship, had no choice but to surrender their beloved dogs.
We tried our very best to be there for our dogs and beloved pets of our community members through it all. While we were there for them, you were there for us every step of the way. With your help, here is what we were able to accomplish:
♥️ We sustained our Rescue. Our staff continued full steam ahead to make sure every single dog living at The Doghouse received the love and care they deserved.
♥️ All dogs received a visit to the veterinarian, medication, and follow-up treatment they needed for routine and severe health challenges.
♥️ 289 dogs found loving homes in 2020, and their adoptive families experienced the unconditional love and joy that a dog brings into their lives. In 2020 we also set another milestone: 12,300 dogs saved since we began our rescue. Don’t mind us if we get a bit teary-eyed talking about this.
♥️ 110 dogs that belong to struggling families received urgent and life-changing veterinary care.
♥️ We donated over 90,000 lbs of pet food to local food banks so that families who were experiencing difficulties providing proper care and food for beloved animal companions and did not have to panic or at the very worst give up their pets.
♥️ We delivered much-needed supplies to desperate animal rescue organizations after hurricane Laura devastated Louisiana, then we returned to the Doghouse with 17 dogs abandoned after the hurricane.
We believe every animal’s life matters, therefore we make A Lifetime Promise to every dog we rescue: “You will never live in a shelter or go hungry or live without love.” We also make a promise to YOU: As long as there are dogs to rescue and protect, we will continue our work. We thank you for helping us fulfill these missions.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for always being there for our dogs, trusting us, and supporting our work. We are forever grateful and blessed.
With Love,
Danny & Ron
