Lexington, Ky. – Nov. 4, 2022 – International show jumping competition returned to the Alltech Arena Friday evening for the T&R Development International Two Phase CSI4* at the 2022 National Horse Show. A highlight event of the day, 30 international athletes and their top mounts jumped the two phase course in hopes of securing a piece of the $37,000 purse. Of the competitive roster, Daniel Coyle (IRE) and Oak Grove’s Carlyle earned their place on top in the winner’s circle for their brilliant performance throughout the two phases of competition.
Guilherme Jorge (BRA) set forth an 8-obstacle first-phase track, testing athletes’ power through the technical course. Those who navigated a clear effort would advance to the 7-fence power phase in a race against the clock that would determine the top spots on the leaderboard. Setting the pace with the first double-clear effort was Kelli Cruciotti-Vanderveen (USA) aboard Springpaarden Fonds Nederland’s Forever SFN, who were the second pair in the order-of-go. The duo navigated their way around the first phase to a fault-free finish for their shot at the second phase, stopping the clocks in 31.53 seconds and setting the time to beat.
Cruciotti-Vanderveen and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding set the bar high for the field of competitors, immediately setting the tone with an effortless fault-free round. The duo has racked up an impressive list of FEI placings since they came together in January at the Winter Equestrian Festival [Wellington, FL]. Cruciotti-Vanderveen and Forever SFN held the lead for ten trips until Charlotte Jacobs rode North Star farm’s Rincoola Milsean to a speedy second phase to knock her out of the top spot.
Jacobs and the 9-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding were in it to win it, making every inside turn available to them and hand galloping down to two long run oxers. Rincoola Milsean mastered the track as he was incredibly quick off of the ground, staying in careful form through the entirety of the course. The pair crossed the timers in the second phase in a quick 31.45 seconds. They were unbeatable until the very last horse-and-athlete combination entered the Alltech.
Coyle and Ariel Grange’s Oak Grove’s Carlyle claimed the second blue ribbon of international jumper competition at the 2022 National Horse Show with ease. The 14-year-old Holsteiner gelding never batted an eye, in perfect sync with Coyle through every related distance and turn. Coyle, ranked 43rd in the world, made light work of the track. Oak Grove’s Carlyle used his massive stride to cover the ground and meet the base of the jumps perfectly to set him up for each inside turns. The duo saved the best for last and hand galloped to the final oxer, landing through the timers at 31.18 seconds.
Jumper competition at the 2022 National Horse Show will reach its pinnacle Saturday, November 5, with the highly anticipated $215,900 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Lexington CSI4*.
