The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair shared its rich history and legacy during an intimate evening reception on Saturday, October 5th, offering guests a unique opportunity to view the DHSCF trophy collection up close while learning about each trophy’s legacy.

For 129 years champions have been crowned and storied legacies have been written at The Devon Horse Show. Names of the sport’s most celebrated athletes are etched into the historical trophies, helping to tell the history of America’s horse show.

The evening included cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and music, with a special presentation by the Senior VP of NYC’s Doyle Auction House, Mr. Todd Sell.

The Devon Horse Show maintains the largest collection of horse show trophies in America, and includes pieces that are almost as old as the show itself. Out of the nearly 200 trophies that Devon awards each year, most are over 100 years old. The traditional trophy presentation was once a prestigious honor at many of America’s long gone horse shows, and it is something that the The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair has preserved and grown throughout it’s 128 years.

From traditional cups and platters to ornate decorative statues and urns, each Devon Horse Show trophy is appraised and insured, with values ranging from a few hundred dollars to low five figures.

Standing at nearly 3 feet tall, the Wanamaker Trophy is one of Devon’s most iconic, given to the winner of Devon’s Idle Dice Memorial Stake.

The Devon Horse Show has two separate distinctions within their trophy collection: perpetual trophies and challenge trophies.

Perpetual trophies stay in Devon’s collection indefinitely, while challenge trophies may be retired. Qualifications for retiring a challenge trophy vary, but in most cases, the trophy must be won three times by either the horse and owner, or the same owner to be kept in their permanent possession.

With over a century’s worth of traditions and trophies dating back to the show’s earliest of days, the event was also a celebration of the new trophies, awards, and traditions that devoted Devon Horse Show supporters are excited to see in 2025 and years to come.

Recognized annually at The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, sponsoring a trophy creates a storied legacy for the individual, family, or organization that sponsors it.
