Devon, Pennsylvania – June 1, 2024 – The Grand Amateur Owner 3’6″ Hunter Championship and the $145,100 Idle Dice Open Jumper Stake took center stage in the Dixon Oval on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Devon, PA.

Grand Amateur Owner 3’6″ Hunter Championship honors went to Guess Who and Irene Neuwirth. Neuwirth and Guess Who posted a pair of 90’s to win both the Older A/O Handy and Stake classes today on their way to capturing the Older Amateur Owner 3’6″ Hunter Championship, Overall Grand Amateur Owner 3’6″ Hunter Championship and Leading Amateur Owner 3’6″ Hunter Rider titles.

The Sambalino Awar CARISTO
The Sambalino Award is awarded each year to the Amateur Owner Hunter 3’6″ horse, who, in the opinion of the judges, best exemplifies the classic hunter horse in movement, jumping style, and presence. Caristo, owned and ridden by John Ingram, added his name to The Sambalino Perpetual Trophy this year after earning Reserve Championship Honors in the Older Amateur Owner Hunters.

David Oberkircher stole the show today in the Amateur Jumpers. Winning all there was to win, Oberkircher topped the $20,000 SJHF 1.45 Amateur Jumper Classic with Southfields Farm, LLC’s Vulkato on his way to capturing the Amateur Jumper Division Championship honors and the Leading Amateur Jumper Rider Award.

Alex Matz and Dorothy Matz’s Cashew CR posted a time of 34.71 seconds that could not be beat to take the win in tonight’s $145,100 Idle Dice Open Jumper Stake, sponsored by Meridian Bank. Two seconds behind Matz, and taking second for the second time this week it was Lillie Keenan and Chansonette Farm, LLC’s Kick On with a time of 36.70. Rounding out the top three of an all American podium tonight with a little bit of sibling rivalry was Lucy Matz aboard Fyolieta, the pair went clear in 38.03.

Lillie Keenan and Kick On, a Chansonette Farm, LLC entry, left the Dixon Oval with a clean sweep of the Open Jumper Division and more ribbons than would fit on the horse including two second-place finishes in $145,100 Idle Dice Open Jumper Stake and $226,000 Sapphire Grand Prix of Devon with Kick On and a fourth and a sixth place finish in the $38,700 Main Line Challenge Two-Phase and $38,700 Jet Run Devon Welcome Stake aboard Opium JW Van De Moerhoeve TN.

About the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair: Started in 1896, The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair is the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed horse show in North America and draws in top competitors from around the world. With the grandeur of Philadelphia’s historic Main Line as its backdrop, the show continues to reflect the local traditions and lifestyles of the community.
