Wellington, Fla. – Jan. 23, 2019 – For the first time ever, the horse world’s gentle giants are making a stop on their North American tour to the world-renowned equestrian Village of Wellington. The inaugural Chesapeake International Draft Horse Show, established by lifelong horsewoman Victoria McCullough, is coming to Wellington’s serene Crab Orchard Farm in February.
Experience three days of exciting six-horse hitch competition as these gentle giants showcase an electrifying sport. Set to take place on Feb. 8-10, the Chesapeake International Draft Horse Show features the top five North American teams for each of the three featured breeds: Clydesdales, Percherons and Belgians. Teams will compete for valuable points and purses up to $25,000. This one-of-a-kind horse show is free to the public, with something for every member of the family to enjoy.
McCullough’s combined passion for horse welfare, the equestrian sport and the community of Wellington inspired her to bring this legendary competition to South Florida. The family-orientated and supportive atmosphere of the draft horse shows is what drew her to the sport, and she is thrilled to showcase that hospitality at the Chesapeake International Draft Horse Show. With the stunning backdrop of Crab Orchard Farm, graciously donated by Frank and Monica McCourt, McCullough looks forward to welcoming top teams and members of the Wellington community to the competition.
Held as part of the North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic (NASHHCS), the Chesapeake International Draft Horse Show’s debut in Wellington will be a jewel of the series. The NASHHCS culminates in the final championship in which the four highest point hitches in each of the three breed classifications are invited to compete for the lion’s share of the prize money.
