Buffalo, N.Y. – Sept. 6, 2018 – The 72nd Buffalo International Horse Show (BIHS) returns to Buffalo, New York, Sept. 12–16. Esteemed judges for this year’s hunter and jumper competition will include Danny Robertshaw, Scot Evans and Kim Kirton.
Robertshaw is a licensed “R” judge, serving both US Equestrian (USEF) and the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA). He will be judging hunter competition at the BIHS and has been training hunters for over 40 years, earning championships at the Devon Horse Show, Pennsylvania National Horse Show, Washington International Horse Show and the National Horse Show, to name a few. In collaboration with fellow hunter judge, Ron Danta, the pair operate Beaver River Farm in Camden, South Carolina, and run Danny & Ron’s Rescue, caring for abused and neglected dogs until they are ready to be adopted. Robertshaw received the USEF Emerson Burr Trophy in 2001 as the year’s Equestrian of Honor for the hunter division and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the USHJA in 2010.
Evans will also be judging hunter competition alongside Robertshaw and comes to the BIHS from Annapolis, Maryland. He is a USEF “R” judge and has over 25 years of experience judging hunter and equitation competitions. In addition, he is a founding member and former president of the Equestrian Aid Foundation and has traveled nationwide as an A circuit judge, clinician and public speaker. Evans produced and hosted the DVD and workbook series, The American System of Forward Riding, and also produced the Three Masters, Three Legends series featuring Rodney Jenkins, George H. Morris and Buck Brannaman.
Coming to the BIHS from Ontario, Canada, Kirton has represented Canada in international competition as a junior as well as a member of Nations Cup teams. She will be judging jumper competition at the BIHS, bringing over 45 years of experience competing, training and judging at the highest level. Dubbed the “Queen of Speed,” Kirton became the first athlete to win three feature speed competitions over four days at Spruce Meadows in 1993.
The BIHS is held each year as a benefit for the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center (BTRC) and is designated a “Heritage” competition by the USEF, reserved for horse shows in existence for 25 years or more that have promoted and grown equestrian sport and made contributions to the community outside the gates of the horse show by achieving, maintaining and promoting the equestrian ideals of sportsmanship and competition. The BIHS is fortunate to be one of less than 30 horse shows nationwide that holds this illustrious status.
