Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 15, 2022 – The 10 year old International Grand Prix jumper, Vanturo, most recently competing under the Canadian flag with Gavin Moylan for owner, Alden Moylan, has been sold to Michael and Wendy Smith of Middleburg, VA. Australian rider, Thaisa Erwin, will now hold the reins, and she has great hopes for her new mount.
“I am excited about developing a partnership with Vanturo and am so very grateful to Michael and Wendy Smith for believing in me and supporting my jumping career,” says Erwin. “We are thankful to Gavin and Alden Moylan for selling him to us and can’t wait to see where our future takes us!”
Vanturo was imported by Gavin and Alden Moylan as a 7-year-old from Germany, purchased from the former World Champion, Norbert Koof, as an exciting prospect for Moylan’s Grand Prix string. “I fell in love with his modern type and how much blood he has,” Moylan explains. “Once we could channel his enthusiasm and attain rideability, along with his courage and scope, we knew he’d be a special horse.”
Vanturo finished 2021 at the CSI 3* level and is ready for more. “It’s always hard to part with a Grand Prix horse, especially one with this much promise,” says Moylan. “We take heart in knowing that Vanturo will continue to reach his potential with his new talented rider and top owner. We wish Vanturo and his team the best of luck, and we look forward to cheering them on!”
