Pilar, Argentina – Dec. 9, 2016 – The first international Gay Polo League (GPL) tournament kicked off today at El Remanso Polo Club in Pilar, Argentina.

Three teams, made up of polo professionals and LGBT players, are competing in GPL Argentina, which is played out in a round-robin format. Four-time Argentine Open champion Eduardo Heguy welcomed everyone to his club and set the tone for the day.

First up, PMG defeated RSM by 2 goals to 1. PMG then went on to beat Cedar Crest 3-1, before Cedar Crest claimed a 4-2 win against RSM. The matches were open and fluid, with excellent camaraderie between the teams.

“Playing with Eduardo Heguy is a dream come true,” says GPL President and Founder Chip McKenney. “You just realise that you are playing with a superstar of the sport. The pros were all amazing—they made the day great fun. They made us feel like better players and I think we left today being better players.”

“I met the GPL players last year when they came to stick and ball at the farm,” tells Eduardo Heguy. “I then went to the GPL in Palm Beach and saw the event first hand. Chip mentioned that they were interested in coming to Argentina and setting everything up here and I said that I would love to help. I really love promoting polo and organising tournaments; this is a new league and I am very happy to be involved.”

The GPL continues Friday, Dec. 9, with the finals at Bautista Heguy’s Chapa Uno Polo Club, at 4 p.m. The matches will be followed by drinks and dancing at Chapa Bar. All welcome!
