Polo Players Support Group Grieves the Loss of Henry Stevens

Wellington, Fla. – Nov. 22, 2019 – It is with great sorrow that the Polo Players Support Group (PPSG) mourns the loss of Henry Charles Auverny Stevens, 79, of Midhurst, West Sussex, England, who passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2019. Henry was known by the Polo Players Support Group as a true gentleman, generous supporter and avid polo player.

Born in Salisbury, Rhodesia, on December 1, 1939, Stevens attended Beaumont College in England where he developed his passion for sports, including rugby. Stevens played for London Irish and Guildford & Godalming, subsequently founding the Good Knight Club in Haslemere.

In addition to his love for rugby, Stevens also followed his passion for horses into the polo world. The skilled horseman trained some of the best polo ponies while developing his talent as a player. In 1994, he achieved a 3-goal handicap and won the Junior County Cup with Whitehall. Stevens also played polo at Cowdray Park, Gulf Stream Florida and California. Stevens also put his extensive polo knowledge to use by serving as an umpire for the Hurlingham Polo Association.

Just shy of his 80th birthday, Stevens was known to be full of energy, humor and life. The Polo Players Support Group would like to send condolences to those he is lived on by, including his partner Carol, daughter Gaby, son Jules, their mother Jeannette, his grandchildren and the rest of his family and friends. Please contact Roger Poat & Partners, Midhurst for funeral arrangements. Stevens will be missed by many.
