Buffalo, N.Y. – Sept. 17, 2021 – The 74th edition of the Buffalo International Horse Show (BIHS) continued Friday at the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center (BTRC). The professional hunter divisions wrapped up and leading the day was Rebecca Clawson with Kelly McElroy’s For the Fans capturing the 3’3” Green Hunter Championship.
Clawson and For The Fans dominated the competition in the 3’3” Green Hunters, sweeping all four over fences classes and placing third in the under saddle for the championship title. The reserve championship was presented to Jamie Bates and Jessica Lewis’ Cartier, who placed second in three of the over fences classes as well as the under saddle.
In the Green 3′ Hunter division, Sarah Barge was aboard Judianne Slish’s Lugano and earned the championship tricolor after winning three over fences classes as well as the under saddle class. Alyssa Bokor and C Kaland Equestrian LLC’s Tight Lines took home the reserve championship having won the second over fences class as well as placing second in the first over fences class.
Danielle Zaccheo and her own A Hot Diggity Sound concluded the day with the 2’6” Non-Pro Hunter championship. The duo placed second in the first over fences class and then went on to win the second over fences class. Karissa Bosh’s win in the under saddle class with Sophisticated would help the pair earn the division’s reserved championship title.
The NAL Children’s/Adult Jumpers were the feature classes of the evening to wrap up Friday’s competition. In the Children’s/Adult Jumper classes, the first blue ribbon went to Aaron Donnan riding Charity Donnan’s AI / Greenhouse Effect, while Jessica Mundie and Camal II topped the second class.
Aaron Donnan and After Joe took home the blue ribbon in the first NAL Low Children’s/Adult Jumper class for owner Charity Donnan. In the second class, the top prize was awarded to Alexandra Smith and BTRC’s Fidele De La Cour.
The BIHS will continue on Saturday morning with the conclusion of the Amateur Owner Hunter division and the start of the Junior Hunter division, as well as the Children’s and Pony Hunter divisions throughout the day. Saturday will conclude with the $5,000 Johnson Horse Transportation USHJA National Hunter Derby, followed by the $2,500 S.A. Comunale NAL Child/Adult Jumper Classic and $2,500 S.A. Comunale NAL Low Child/Adult Jumper Classic.
The BIHS is held each year as a benefit for the BTRC and is designated a ‘Heritage’ competition by US Equestrian (USEF), reserved for horse shows in existence for 25 years or more. The BIHS is fortunate to be one of less than 30 horse shows nationwide that holds this illustrious status.
