WEG Withdrawal? Horse & Country TV Has You Covered!

Eventing Highlight Show Premieres TONIGHT at 8 p.m.

Mill Spring, N.C. – Sept. 25, 2018 – The 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games™ (WEG) may be over but Horse & Country TV (H&C TV) is still reliving all of the exciting action from this year’s world championships with its discipline highlight shows. Join H&C TV and watch Great Britain take home both team and individual gold medals in eventing on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. EST.

In the team competition, Great Britain headed into the show jumping phase with an 8.2-penalty advantage (two fences) over Ireland. After clear rounds from two of the Irish athletes, the pressure mounted on the final three British combinations.

Gemma Tattersall picked up an unfortunate 12 faults on Arctic Soul, while Tom McEwen had one down with Toledo De Kerser. This closed the gap between team gold and silver to just 4 faults, with two team riders left to jump.

The penultimate rider was Piggy French, who also picked up 4 faults on Quarrycrest Echo in the final combination. This reduced Team Great Britain’s advantage to just 0.2 of a penalty. However, Ireland’s final team rider, Sarah Ennis, had an early fence down on Horseware Stellor Rebound, which gave British anchor combination Ros Canter and Allstar B a fence in hand.

Her clear round put Great Britain on a winning score of 88.8 penalties, securing the team a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ireland took team silver on 93 penalties, while France won bronze with a score of 99.8 penalties.

Following the cross-country phase, the overnight leader, Ingrid Klimke, had no room for error on SAP Hale Bob OLD. As they approached the final fence, it looked like the individual gold was going to Germany, but the crowds’ cheers turned to gasps as a pole fell and the individual title went to Canter.

“I don’t think it’s sunk in. I can’t believe it,” said Canter. “Allstar B was absolutely amazing, he was an absolute hero. I had an amazing experience in there. I kept saying [to myself], ‘Just let him do his job.’ I’m so proud, he’s just phenomenal. There were quite a few tears when I found out, which isn’t normal for me.”

WEG is held every four years in the middle of the Olympic cycle, and is one of the biggest events on the equestrian calendar. It features a total of eight equestrian disciplines: show jumping, dressage, para-dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, vaulting and reining. It was the major global championship of 2018.

The 2018 games were held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, North Carolina, Sept. 11–23.

H&C TV viewers can watch highlights from each discipline at the following schedule (all times EST):
