Wellington, Fla. (March 11, 2021) – Just 350 guests will attend Brooke USA’s Sunset Polo & White Party | Special Edition: Latin America, presented by Lugano Diamonds, on March 18 at the International Polo Club. With a multitude of offerings for guests to enjoy, Brooke USA has not skipped a beat with an evening of activities focused on increasing awareness for the plight of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people they serve. While raising funds in support of the organization’s mission, the Host Committee, chaired by Board Chair Katherine Kaneb, has designed a line-up of great options for guests.
To help reach Brooke USA’s goal of $250,000 raised from the event, Lugano Diamond’s, the event’s presenting sponsor, has granted guests the opportunity to peruse magnificent pieces of jewelry in Lugano’s Lounge while offering a percentage of sales from the night and beyond to Brooke USA. Julie Keyes of Keyes Art Gallery is curating a one-of-a-kind art auction featuring the work of some of today’s most coveted contemporary artists, including Hans Hofmann, Bert Stern, Claude Lawrence, Jules Feiffer, John Torreano, Erika Ranee, Melinda Hackett, Claire Price, Perle Fine, Bruce Lieberman, Tammi Smith, Fred Bendheim, Eileen O’Kane Kornreich, Bill Claps and Nathan Slate Joseph. Keyes Art Consulting works with architectural and design professionals, exclusive hoteliers, and private clients in the selection of exceptional contemporary art.
The highlight of the art auction is the sale of a painting by world-acclaimed Colombian figurative artist and sculptor Fernando Botero. Painted in 2004, Botero’s Woman On Horse starts the bidding at $300,000 and will be on display throughout the evening at Brooke USA’s Sunset Polo & White Party. A portion of the proceeds from Brooke USA’s Sunset Polo & White Party | Special Edition: Latin America presented by Lugano Diamonds will ensure:
- Support of Brooke USA’s Americas Fund for the purchase of 233 demo plots in rural communities in Nicaragua. These demo plots are used to teach and train villagers on the basics of fodder cultivation – from planting to storing food for their equines. Cost per plot $500.
- Support of Brooke USA’s COVID-19 Response & Recovery Fund for nonprofit organizations across the country in need of financial assistance. Due to the pandemic, horses, donkeys, and mules are being abandoned as their owners struggle with financial hardship and the inability to feed and care for their equines. Micro-grants range between $500 and $1,000.
- Support of Brooke USA’s Advocacy Fund to ensure a ban on the import and sale of ejiao, the derivative of boiling donkeys hides for use in Traditional Chinese Medicine, in the United States. Donkeys in Africa are being stolen, mistreated, and inhumanely slaughtered for their hides; the US is the third-largest global consumer of ejiao.
- Support of Brooke USA’s new initiative to scope and research equine welfare among Native American tribes with the goal of introducing programming that will improve the quality of life of equines and positively impact the lives of those living on the Reservations.
